The purest of abstractions: a man, alone, who draws, on each pad of his MPC, a personality, an instrument or a sensibility and then orchestrates the whole, using the sampler's processor as an extension of the brain, coding structures and models from other people's excerpts and breathing originality into them with some real instrumentation. The real sampler is, however, the brain and a Fender Rhodes could equally be just a machine for flying towards the past, while also being enchanted by a possibility of the future.
